The Security Service of Ukraine detained a saboteur who, on the instructions of Russian intelligence, committed a series of arsons of energy facilities in Cherkasy region. UNN reports this with reference to the SBU press service.

Details

It is noted that the saboteur tried to destroy 8 power substations and one relay cabinet in different places of Uman district.  In this way, the enemy planned to de-energize most of the community and block railroad traffic in the region.

The enemy agent turned out to be a 20-year-old local resident who was looking for "easy money" on the Internet.

To fulfill the enemy's task, he first identified the locations of the "necessary" energy facilities and prepared the tools for committing the crime. Then he hacked into transformer substations to pour gasoline on the technological equipment and set it on fire.

In the event of the destruction of the "targets," the Russian special service promised its accomplice money that was to be transferred to his bank card.

SBU officers detained the saboteur red-handed when he was trying to destroy a new power facility.

He has now been served a notice of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • ч. 2, Art. 113 (sabotage committed under martial law);
  • ч. 2, Art. 194-1 (intentional damage to electric power facilities).

The offender is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
