During the November 13 attack, russia used North Korean KN-23/24 ballistic missiles. KFI experts identified specific features of these weapons, including atypical welding and a unique metal composition.
russia used, among other things, North Korean ballistic missiles of the KN-23/24 type during its combined attack on Ukraine on November 13. Experts from the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise (Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise), who have been studying their parts since the beginning of their use, told UNN more about these weapons.
"We are currently conducting several examinations of parts and fragments of North Korean KN-23 missiles and their analogs. The research is ongoing, but there is no doubt that these are North Korean weapons. Their peculiarity is a large explosive part (about 500 kg and there are probably several modifications), so when the explosion destroys almost everything, only parts and debris remain.
So far, parts of the jet engine with specific markings, fasteners, steering mechanism drives, bearings and some fragmentary microelectronics have been identified. The welding of the structure and the composition of the metal, which has unique visual and elemental characteristics, which is confirmed by chemical research, are also atypical for russian missiles," KFI reported.
According to experts, the KN-23 combines both modern technologies and solutions from the last century. A significant percentage of the microelectronics is produced in China, Taiwan, the United States, and other countries. It is likely that the launches are carried out from North Korean-made launchers, as it would be much more difficult to adapt Russian systems.
Recall
On the morning of November 13, russia carried out a combined missile and drone strike on Kyiv that lasted more than 2 hours. It was the first strike on the capital in 73 days. The enemy used cruise and ballistic missiles along with Shahed UAVs, and all targets were destroyed by air defense forces.
