Russia proposes mining "shadow fleet" tankers

Senator from the occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region and former head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, has proposed mining "shadow fleet" tankers, UNN reports, citing Russian media.

"If it goes 'bang' under their noses a few times, with oil spills and the corresponding environmental consequences, they will come to their senses immediately," Rogozin reacted to today's detention of the Russian "shadow fleet" tanker Smyrtos by Great Britain.

In his opinion, explosive devices should be detonated "upon receipt of the appropriate command" — for example, in the event of a vessel's forced entry into a foreign port or deviation from its route.

He compared Great Britain's actions in intercepting the vessel to the practices of the 16th and 17th centuries, when the English crown issued private ships permits to seize enemy vessels. According to Rogozin, London is still using "piracy" for political and economic interests today.
