Poroshenko's bank was fined UAH 20.5 million for money laundering - NBU

The National Bank of Ukraine fined PJSC "International Investment Bank", owned by Petro Poroshenko, UAH 20.5 million for violating legislation on money laundering - according to a report of the NBU, reports "Law and Business".

Thus, in March 2025, the NBU applied measures of influence for violations of the requirements of legislation in the field of preventing the legalization (laundering) of proceeds from crime, financing of terrorism and financing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and in the field of currency legislation to the "International Investment Bank" (IIB), which belongs to People's Deputy Petro Poroshenko.

According to the regulator's decision, Poroshenko's bank must pay a fine of UAH 20.5 million for numerous violations of the law. In particular, it concerns the bank's failure to comply with the obligation to conduct proper customer verification, submission of unreliable information, as well as failure to use a risk-based approach in financial monitoring.

The NBU clarified that the violations were recorded during an audit of the bank's compliance with the requirements of relevant legislation and regulatory acts of the regulator.

Earlier, experts called the Bank's work with the funds of the Poroshenko Foundation for the purchase of Ukrainian government bonds a scam.

"Millions of donations from citizens to the Armed Forces of Ukraine through Poroshenko's bank migrated from his funds to government bonds and then returned with interest. And this interest was paid by the state. That is, you and I. The "Chesno" movement reported that Poroshenko's party did the same with state funding: instead of spending it on activities, as required by law, the "ESI-ites" also bought bonds at 17-18% per annum," - reported expert Oleshchuk.

As you know, in February, sanctions were imposed against a number of oligarchs and politicians who posed a threat to national security, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and contributed to terrorist activities. In particular, the list included Petro Poroshenko, Viktor Medvedchuk and others.  In particular, Petro Poroshenko was accused of lobbying the Kharkiv agreements (CF in Crimea); financing terrorists (purchase of coal from ORDLO); trading in the war with Russia (Lipetsk factory, "Bogdan" plant in Russia, etc.); illegal alienation of the oil pipeline from the state together with Medvedchuk and the Russians, etc. According to the results of a poll, 65.2% of Ukrainians support sanctions against Poroshenko, Medvedchuk and others, considering them deserved.

A few weeks before the imposition of sanctions against him, Petro Poroshenko withdrew 1 billion 48 million hryvnias from Ukraine and donated another 986 million hryvnias.

As reported, People's Deputy Petro Poroshenko earned more than UAH 4.6 billion in 2024.  This amount is 30 times higher than the politician's earnings in the pre-war year of 2021, and he himself is one of the three richest oligarchs in Ukraine.
