"No one will hear the truth": a father of many children raped his partner's 13-year-old daughter for months - he has been sentenced to life imprisonment

A Chernivtsi resident was sentenced to life imprisonment for the systematic rape of a 13-year-old child. Prosecutors secured a tougher sentence in the court of appeal.
A father of four systematically raped his partner's 13-year-old daughter - the prosecutor's office secured a life sentence for him, the Prosecutor General's Office reported on Wednesday, UNN writes.
Prosecutors of the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office secured a life sentence in the court of appeal for a 34-year-old resident of Chernivtsi for the systematic rape of a young child,
On April 17, the Court of Appeal, as indicated, agreed with the arguments of the prosecution that the nature and duration of the illegal actions, as well as their consequences for the victim, testify to the exceptional gravity of the crime.
The man had lived with the victim's mother since August 2021. "Despite being a father of four young children himself, he systematically committed violence against his partner's daughter," the prosecutor's office reported.
"From February to May 2024, he raped the child every week, so the crimes were repetitive in nature and were accompanied by intimidation of the child. The accused tried to force her to remain silent, convincing her that 'no one will hear the truth'", the prosecutor's office indicated.
A separate episode, according to the prosecutor's office, occurred on the day the child turned 13. "The convict again tried to commit the crime. The child's resistance and the fact that guests were due to arrive soon stopped him. However, just 3 days later, he carried out his plan," the Prosecutor General's Office reported.
The incident became known after the mother noticed changes in her daughter's emotional state. After a conversation, the child reported the facts of violence, and the woman immediately contacted law enforcement agencies.
In November 2025, the Hertsa District Court found the man guilty and sentenced him to 15 years of imprisonment. The prosecutor's office appealed the sentence as one that did not correspond to the gravity of the crimes.
The accused himself and his defense counsel also disagreed with the verdict. The man not only failed to plead guilty but also claimed slander, asking the court to acquit him and close the criminal proceedings.
The Chernivtsi Court of Appeal supported the position of the prosecutors and sentenced the convict to life imprisonment.
The nature of the crimes, their systematic nature, and the circumstances of their commission, including the attempt to rape the child on her birthday, testify to their exceptional gravity. That is why the prosecutor's office consistently defended the position regarding life imprisonment, and the court of appeal supported it,
