NABU unit head Romaniuk bought luxury cars and real estate and registered them to relatives - investigation

The head of one of the NABU's divisions, Mykhailo Romaniuk, was found to have VIP cars and real estate registered to relatives, and the detective himself recently purchased new housing in an elite residential complex for several million hryvnias under a preferential program. And his brother has been on trial for bribery for 8 years, according to Informator.ua, reports UNN.

Cars. First there was a Mercedes-Benz E 220 CDI, which belonged to the detective's mother-in-law, Natalia Podchynok. In 2022, the Mercedes disappeared from the declaration, but an AUDI A6 appeared, which already belonged to his father, Oleksandr Romaniuk. Real estate. An apartment in Irpen, Kyiv region. Registered to his mother - Vira. Another achievement of the anti-corruption fighter in the midst of the war is a land plot in Bucha, Kyiv region, with an area of 1320 square meters and an unfinished (allegedly) house of 219 square meters. Both the house and the land are also registered to the mother, Vira Romaniuk 

Only in the declaration for 2024, the publication noted, Mykhailo Romaniuk has an apartment of 117.4 square meters, which belongs directly to him. And it was purchased under a preferential state program.

The apartment was purchased on a mortgage under the eOselia program. This program contains a limited list of those who can use it. Among them, since August 2023, are NABU detectives, who have been equated in this way to the soldiers of the Armed Forces who are fighting with Russia 

They noted that one of the most famous cases led by Mykhailo Romaniuk after joining the NABU was Rotterdam+.

Since Mykhailo Romaniuk took up the case, the Bureau has been repeatedly accused of dragging its feet and, in the end, of "leaking" the case. The last mention of it dates back to November 8 last year: the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court refused to close it. The longer Romaniuk kept the story of "Rotterdam +" on pause, the richer he became 

According to journalists, such things are possible only if the leadership knows everything.

The authors of the investigation reminded that for 8 years the Sviatoshynskyi District Court of Kyiv has not made a decision regarding the accused brother of Mykhailo Romaniuk - the senior investigator of the Kyiv-Sviatoshynskyi Tax Inspectorate, Ihor Romaniuk.

According to the GPU, this investigator demanded and received a bribe of 20 thousand dollars from the head of one company. The most likely protector of Romaniuk from prison is his brother - Mykhailo Romaniuk, who has been making a successful career in the National Anti-Corruption Bureau all these years 

Journalists reported that Mykhailo Romaniuk himself worked in the central office of the tax police until 2016.

According to our information, he was known among his colleagues for his extraordinary appetites in extorting bribes from entrepreneurs. We remember well the pressure on business by tax officials in those days. There, as they say, he "built his starting capital" 

As reported, law enforcement officers recently detained a representative of the NABU for the production and sale of drugs. The criminal group he headed cooked and sold amphetamine, and also smuggled a precursor for drugs, phenylnitropropene. The group's monthly income is estimated at over 50 million hryvnias.
