Moldova's ambassador to the EU: Chisinau may start EU accession talks in summer

Moldova's ambassador to the EU expects Chisinau to start accession talks with the EU by the end of June 2024, moving faster than the Western Balkan countries in the accession process.
Moldova may start negotiations on EU accession by the end of June this year. Ambassador of Moldova to the EU Daniela Morar said this in an interview with NewsMaker, UNN reports.

The diplomat said that the government is now focused on implementing the European Commission's recommendations, the legislation screening procedure and preparing for the EU accession negotiations.
According to the diplomat, the authorities expect to start negotiations by the end of June 2024.

Assessing Moldova's chances of joining the EU, the diplomat noted that Chisinau is moving faster than the Western Balkan countries.
For example, the screening process in these countries lasted more than a year, almost two years. In our case, from February to the end of May, so now the priority is to prepare well and determine where expert assistance and assistance to institutions is needed

The publication noted that on March 3, 2022, Moldova applied for EU membership. And on June 23, Moldova became an EU candidate.
A year and a half later, on November 8, 2023, the European Commission recommended that the European Council start negotiations on Moldova and Ukraine's accession to the EU.
