In Zakarpattia, a former battalion commander and his subordinate have been notified of suspicion due to a scheme in which a female soldier did not perform service for almost two years but received over UAH 1.5 million in pay. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, writes UNN.

Details

The former battalion commander of one of the military units in Zakarpattia region facilitated a subordinate female soldier in evading service, the statement says.

According to the investigation, knowing that the subordinate was absent from the temporary deployment location of the unit, he allowed her not to report to the place of service and created conditions for her prolonged stay outside the military unit.

The investigation established that for at least two years, the 31-year-old female soldier actually stayed at home, not performing her duties, but groundlessly received pay and additional remuneration totaling over UAH 1.5 million. At the same time, she periodically came to the military unit, creating the appearance of performing service

- the statement says.

The ex-commander knew about this, but deliberately concealed the female soldier's absence from higher command and assured colleagues that she was performing service tasks on his orders.

The violation was uncovered during the investigation of another criminal activity of the former commander. In February 2025, an indictment was already sent to court against him for extorting undue benefits from servicemen in exchange for not sending them to the combat zone.

Under the procedural guidance of the Zakarpattia Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Defense Sector of the Western Region, the former commander has been notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 364, Part 5 of Article 27, Part 4 of Article 409 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and the female soldier under Part 4 of Article 409, Part 5 of Article 27, Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. A motion has been submitted to the court to select preventive measures for the suspects.
