Rescuers extinguished a fire on 130 hectares in the Chornobyl zone, work continues at three sites, radiation levels are within normal limits, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported on Saturday, writes UNN.

Rescuers of Kyiv region extinguished a fire at one of the locations in the Chornobyl zone this morning on an area of 130 hectares. Currently, work continues at three more sites, at one of which the fire has already been localized. The situation is under control, and radiation levels are within normal limits

The SES noted that every day, in conditions of exhausting heat, side by side with units from other regions of Ukraine, firefighters are making maximum efforts to stop the spread of fire. And this is not only about preserving the ecosystem. This is a fight for clean air, which is breathed by residents of Kyiv region, the capital and neighboring regions.

"The work is complicated by the lack of sufficient water supply sources nearby. Because of this, water has to be delivered over considerable distances, which significantly slows down the elimination process and requires even greater endurance and coordination from the personnel," the State Emergency Service noted.

As stated, heavy engineering equipment of the State Emergency Service plays an important role in taming the fire. "Thanks to the dedicated work of its operators, roads are being laid to the epicenters of the fire and mineralized strips are being created that restrain the flames and help protect new areas," the statement reads.

"Every meter of land reclaimed from the elements is the result of the joint, intense and dangerous work of the State Emergency Service rescuers," the State Emergency Service emphasized.
