A failure occurred at the Beznau nuclear power plant in Switzerland, which led to the shutdown of the nuclear reactor. The cause of the network connection failure is being investigated, and the timing of the restoration is unknown.
The nuclear reactor at the Swiss NPP Beznau was stopped in the evening of March 24 due to a failure of connection to the power grid, there is no danger. This is stated in a statement published on the website of the energy group Axpo, Nordot reports, writes UNN.
Details
The station is located in Döttingen, approximately 7 kilometers from the southwestern border of Germany.
As a result of the shutdown, non-radioactive water vapor was released through the roof of a part of the station that does not participate in nuclear reactions. Only one unit was affected
It is noted that the cause of the network connection failure is being investigated. It is unknown when work will be restored on the affected unit.

Beznau 1 and Beznau 2 were commissioned in 1969 and 1971 and are therefore among the oldest nuclear power plants in the world still in operation.
Switzerland has decided to gradually abandon nuclear energy, but existing power plants can operate as long as they are considered safe. According to current plans, Axpo wants to decommission Beznau 1 and 2 in 2032 and 2033.
