Poland and Ukraine are discussing the transfer of MiG-29 fighters, but the technical condition of the aircraft is unsatisfactory. The decision depends on agreements regarding repairs and funding.
Poland and Ukraine may decide in the near future on the transfer of MiG-29 fighters to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Poland Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, reports Defence Express citing Wirtualna Polska, writes UNN.

According to the Polish minister, negotiations are ongoing, but the final decision depends on agreements between the parties.

Currently, the parties are discussing the issue of repair and maintenance of the aircraft, in particular who will carry out these works and at whose expense they will be financed. The results of the negotiations have not been reported yet.
The main obstacle remains the technical condition of the aircraft
As Defence Express notes, the Ukrainian side had previously assessed the Polish MiG-29s and concluded that their technical condition is unsatisfactory. Because of this, operating the aircraft without repair and modernization may be dangerous.
The issue of financing and carrying out repairs became one of the key points in the negotiations. Later, Poland also stated that Ukraine does not agree to transfer drone technologies to the Polish side in exchange for the fighters.
According to Defence Express, Poland currently has 14 MiG-29 fighters, but after repairs to a combat-ready state, it will likely be possible to bring no more than nine aircraft into service.
