According to Kozlovskis, in February the ministry submitted for public discussion and coordination with the government a report that provides for the replacement and correction by September 30 of this year of road signs pointing to Russia and Belarus, "using various solutions."
A few weeks ago, we reminded the office of the new prime minister about this report... Of course, there are costs, but we are ready for them. At the moment, I do not see the need for recommendations in this direction. It is not necessary. Perhaps in some distant future
He noted that the report is already ready, so it now depends on the Prime Minister's Office when it will be placed on the agenda of the State Chancellery.
According to the Legal Acts Portal, the report was submitted for consideration by the government after coordination with a number of agencies, including the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development, the State Chancellery, and the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments.
The report states that further actions involve improving the system of road signs and direction indicators, maintaining the current level of funding, and gradually implementing various solutions, including partial adjustments, replacement of individual road signs, or improvement of routes through road numbering and European markings
According to the company "Latvijas Valsts ceļi", there are currently 235 information and directional signs with the names of populated places in Russia and Belarus installed on Latvia's highways. First of all, they plan to replace outdated ones, or those that can be updated by September 30 as part of road repair or construction works.
According to the agency's estimates, the costs for these needs will amount to approximately 120 thousand euros.
