In Kherson region, the occupation authorities registered 2,700 Ukrainians for military service in the Russian army

The occupation authorities have registered at least 2,700 residents of Kherson region for military service, and some have already been drafted into the Russian army. Six officials involved in this were notified in absentia that they are suspected of criminal wrongdoing.
In the temporarily occupied part of the Kherson region, at least 2,700 residents were registered for military service with a view to subsequently recruiting them into the occupiers’ army, while some of them have already been conscripted into the armed forces of the Russian Federation. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, UNN reports.

According to the investigation, those involved in organizing this system include the so-called "governor of the Kherson region," four heads of occupation military enlistment offices, and an official of the occupation administration responsible for mobilization efforts. Prosecutors from the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office notified them in absentia that they were suspects.
All six are charged with violating the laws and customs of war, committed by a group of persons. The Ukrainian citizen who worked in the occupation administration is additionally charged with collaboration activities.
According to the investigation, the system was coordinated by the so-called "governor." On the basis of his orders, conscription commissions were established, the procedure for mobilization measures was determined, and cooperation between the occupation authorities and military structures of the Russian Federation was organized
According to available information, in July 2023, the so-called "Military Commissariat of the Kherson Region" was established in Henichesk. Through its subordinate structures in the occupied territory, data on men of conscription age were collected, they were registered for military service, medical examinations were organized, and conscription campaigns were conducted.
Separately, an official who assumed a leadership position in the occupation administration and was responsible for mobilization efforts coordinated military registration in the captured communities, the work of military registration offices, and cooperation between the occupation "military enlistment offices" and the administration.
Men were forced to undergo conscription procedures under threat of violence, unlawful deprivation of liberty, restrictions on leaving the territory, loss of access to social services, and deportation. In some cases, torture was used. In this way, the occupation authorities created a mechanism for systematically coercing Ukrainian citizens who remained in the occupied territory to serve in the army of the aggressor state
