Hantavirus detected in another person in Spain who was on board the MV Hondius

The Spanish Ministry of Health has confirmed a hantavirus infection in a passenger of the MV Hondius. The patient is in isolation under medical supervision at the Gómez Ulla Hospital.

The Spanish Ministry of Health stated that another person who was on board the vessel MV Hondius has been diagnosed with hantavirus in the country. The patient has been under clinical observation and in isolation since hospitalization. The Spanish Ministry of Health reported this on X, according to UNN.
A new positive case of hantavirus infection has been confirmed by PCR testing in one of the individuals currently in preventive isolation at the Gomez Ulla Hospital. This is a person from the close contact group identified during the epidemiological monitoring initiated after the first outbreak was detected
It is noted that the patient has been under clinical observation and in isolation since hospitalization in accordance with the protocols established by the Early Warning and Rapid Response System.
Following the confirmation of the diagnosis, the patient was transferred to the High-Level Isolation Unit of the Gomez Ulla Hospital, where they will remain under the supervision of specialized medical personnel and in compliance with the biosafety measures prescribed for such cases. Health authorities emphasize that the detection of the case occurred within the framework of the already launched isolation and control mechanism, therefore it does not change the risk situation for the general population and does not affect current epidemiological response measures
