Hand-held metal detectors introduced in more than 70 schools in Ukraine

Ukraine is introducing metal detectors in schools to ensure security, and 72 out of 500 priority schools are already using them.
Ukraine has identified 500 general secondary education institutions that primarily need to organize their physical security with the mandatory use of metal detectors. Currently, 72 institutions have introduced the use of handheld metal detectors. This was reported to UNN by the Department of Legal Support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in response to a request.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that in accordance with the requirements of the Concept of Security of Educational Institutions, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on April 7, 2023, No. 301-p, at the initial stage, taking into account the number of students, teaching staff, availability of shelters, locations, 500 general secondary education institutions with full-time or mixed form of education, located in areas close to the areas of hostilities and primarily requiring the organization of their physical security with the mandatory introduction of metal detectors and

As of today, 72 general secondary education institutions under the physical protection of the security police have introduced the use of handheld metal detectors to conduct visual inspections of students for prohibited items, substances that may pose a threat to life or health, and other items prohibited by law
In addition, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on the stage of installation of metal detectors and baggage scanners in public places in Ukraine.

"According to the Department of Security Police of the National Police, we inform you that the Main Departments of the National Police of Ukraine in the regions and Kyiv have initiated appeals to local governments, military regional administrations and the Kyiv City Military Administration to purchase arch/handheld metal detectors to organize work on detecting prohibited items, explosives, etc. in public places (at train stations, airports, metro stations, as well as, if necessary, in state bodies, institutions, facilities)"
