Germany has temporarily suspended the reception of refugees under the UN program due to negotiations on a new coalition. In 2024-2025, the country pledged to accept 13,100 refugees.

Germany has temporarily suspended the reception of refugees under the UN resettlement program. This was announced by the German Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Deutsche Welle reports, writes UNN.
Details
Under this program, Germany pledged to accept 13,100 refugees in 2024-2025. Currently, according to the DPA agency, the country has temporarily stopped considering applications. This decision was made against the background of negotiations on the formation of a new ruling coalition in Germany between the conservative CDU/CSU bloc and the Social Democratic Party of Germany.
Addition
Currently, 5,061 people have arrived in the country under the resettlement program. In the first quarter of 2025, the number of asylum applications submitted in Germany decreased by 41% compared to the same period in 2024 – to 37,787 applications.
In general, France (40,871) and Spain (39,318) submitted the most asylum applications in the European Union under the specified UN program. Thus, Germany has ceased to be the EU leader in this indicator for the first time in many years. Most often, citizens of Syria (24%), Afghanistan (16%) and Turkey (11%) requested asylum in Germany.
Let us remind you
Negotiations on the formation of a coalition between the CDU/CSU and the SPD have reached the final stage due to global uncertainty caused by US customs policy.
