Former Ukrainian Armed Forces psychiatrist suspected of laundering UAH 34.5 million through criminal means — case sent to court

The former chief psychiatrist of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is suspected of laundering more than UAH 34.5 million obtained through criminal means. His case has been referred to court, and he is in custody.
The Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Field of Defense of the Office of the Prosecutor General has filed an indictment with the court against the former chief psychiatrist of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He is suspected of laundering property obtained through criminal means totaling more than UAH 34.5 million, UNN reports, citing the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Details
According to the investigation, during 2023–2024, the suspect carried out transactions involving funds whose origins investigators link to illegally acquired assets. These funds were used, in particular, to purchase vehicles and real estate, which were subsequently registered in the names of relatives, family members, and other persons.
The investigation established a significant discrepancy between the official incomes of the official and persons associated with him and the value of the acquired property. Financial analysis materials and an anti-corruption review also confirmed transactions used to conceal the origin of the funds and the actual ownership of the assets
In January 2025, the official was notified of suspicion of illicit enrichment and declaring inaccurate information. In February 2026, as part of separate criminal proceedings, he was notified of suspicion of laundering property obtained through criminal means. The accused is currently in custody.
After the completion of the pre-trial investigation, on August 6, 2026, the indictment was filed with the court under Parts 1 and 2 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The articles provide for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 3 to 12 years, with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to 2–3 years, and confiscation of property.
