UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting stated that Europe will in the future be grateful to US President Donald Trump for forcing the region's countries to increase defence spending and abandon excessive dependence on Washington. This is reported by Sky News, writes UNN.

In an interview with Sky News, Wes Streeting said: "Regarding President Trump in particular, I would say: we don't always like what he says. We don't always like his methods.
But I sincerely believe that when this period of history is written, Europe will thank President Trump for forcing us to come out of a state of complacency and forcing us to stand on our own feet, as well as ending the period of excessive dependence on the United States in defence."
He continued: "What he said about Europe is not unique to President Trump, the MAGA movement, or the Republican Party. This is a long-standing source of US discontent with Europe under presidents from both the Democratic and Republican parties.
And in the world we live in, it is right that we can act to ensure our own security."
