In the first quarter of 2026, over 2.8 million new cars were sold in the EU. Germany emerged as the market leader, while the fewest vehicles were registered in Malta.

Germany and Malta topped the lists of the largest and smallest EU car markets with approximately 700,000 and 1.5 thousand registered cars since the beginning of the year, respectively, UNN reports, citing data from the "Ukravtoprom" association.

According to the results of the first quarter of 2026, more than 2.8 million new passenger cars were reportedly sold in EU countries.

"Germany remains the largest market in the EU, where 699.4 thousand new passenger cars were registered from January to March, which is 5.2% more than last year. The smallest number of cars was registered in Malta – 1,558 units," the report states.

The TOP 5 largest markets in the European Union, as indicated, included:

  • Germany – 699,404 cars (+5.2%);
    • Italy – 484,577 units (+9.2%);
      • France – 401,555 units (-2.1%);
        • Spain – 300,529 units (+7.6%);
          • Poland – 151,639 units (+6.7%).

            The smallest EU markets were:

            • Lithuania – 9,571 units (+7.1%);
              • Latvia – 4,993 units (+4.5%);
                • Estonia – 4,250 units (+100.4%);
                  • Cyprus – 3,670 units (-17.5%);
                    • Malta – 1,558 units (+22.2%).

                      According to Ukravtoprom, 15.4 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Ukraine in the first quarter of 2026.
