According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the tremors were recorded at 7:59 local time. They were felt by residents of the cities of Lagos and Portimão in the tourist region of the Algarve.
The epicenter of the earthquake was in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 70 kilometers from Cape St. Vincent. According to IPMA, no casualties or material damage from the earthquake have been recorded.
