This is the second US state after Colorado to bar Trump from the US election. Trump is expected to appeal.

Former US President Donald Trump will not be allowed to participate in the Republican Party primaries in in the state of Maine. This was reported by CNN with reference to a high-ranking representative of the state election commission, reports UNN.

The decision is explained by the 3rd section of the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution, according to which no person shall hold any office in the service of the United States or any State, if he shall have taken an oath of office, "shall thereafter participate in a rebellion or insurrection against the United States, or aided or abetted the enemies thereof".

Maine Secretary of State Shanna Bellows announced the decision after presiding over an administrative administrative hearing. Bellows' decision may be appealed to the court of appeals

This amendment to the basic law was introduced after the Civil War of 1861-1865.
