Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has begun a course of preventive radiotherapy after being diagnosed with early-stage skin cancer. This was reported by Reuters with reference to doctors and the president's office, according to UNN.

Details

A medical report from the Sírio-Libanês Hospital states that the 80-year-old leader was prescribed "additional treatment with preventive superficial radiotherapy of the scalp." At the same time, doctors emphasized that Lula will continue to perform his duties without restrictions.

A presidential spokesperson told Reuters that the lesion was "small" and that it is an early-stage cancer. According to him, Lula is to undergo 15 therapy sessions to prevent further development of the disease. Previously, the Brazilian president underwent treatment for throat cancer in 2011 and also underwent several surgeries in 2024 due to a brain hemorrhage.
