In a letter obtained by the publication, MEPs supported a complaint by the human rights organization FairSquare. They ask FIFA's ethics committee to review the decision to establish the annual FIFA Peace Prize and its subsequent awarding to Donald Trump.
The author of the letter, MEP Barry Andrews, said that the actions of the FIFA president could call into question the political neutrality of the organization.
The World Cup should unite the world. When FIFA President Infantino favors one president over another, it puts FIFA and the entire tournament at a disadvantage
MEPs point to a possible violation of FIFA's statutes
The letter notes that this summer, when the world's attention will be focused on tournaments under the auspices of FIFA, the organization should consider the FairSquare complaint and reaffirm its commitment to political neutrality, transparency and accountability.
The deputies emphasize that Infantino's public statements in support of the US president may contradict FIFA's statutes, which stipulate that the organization "remains neutral in matters of politics and religion."

The first FIFA Peace Prize was awarded to Donald Trump on December 5, 2025. Three days later, the human rights organization FairSquare filed a corresponding complaint with FIFA's ethics committee. According to Politico, Infantino did not bring the issue of creating the award to the FIFA Council for consideration, and critics viewed this decision as an attempt to win the favor of the US president.
FIFA confirmed receipt of the complaint back in December, but has not yet responded to the MEPs' appeal and has not provided comments to Politico.
We are simply asking the FIFA Ethics Committee to fully investigate the awarding of the first FIFA Peace Prize to President Trump and to ensure due process is followed
