Leaders from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential election. Most expressed hope for further cooperation and strengthening of international relations.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau congratulated Trump on X and added a photo of the two of them in the White House during the president-elect's first term.

"The friendship between Canada and the United States is the envy of the world. I know that President Trump and I will work together to create more opportunity, prosperity and security for both our nations," Trudeau wrote.

Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs congratulated Trump and said: "Europe needs a strong United States, and the United States needs a strong Europe.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda said that "transatlantic unity is crucial". Nausėda noted that "the United States is a key strategic ally" of Lithuania, and both countries take security issues seriously.

Estonian President Alar Karis said that his country "values its strong alliance with the United States, based on shared democratic ideals and a common commitment to global security.

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev joined world leaders in congratulating Trump on his victory. "I am confident that our effective dialogue at the highest level will continue in the interests of the strategic partnership between the United States and Bulgaria," Radev wrote in X.

Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris said: "Congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump on your victory. The people of the United States have spoken, and Ireland will work to deepen and strengthen the historic and enduring ties between our people and our nations in the years ahead.

Czech President Petr Pavel said he appreciated the country's" partnership with the United States "and looked forward to" continuing cooperation in addressing common global challenges, including the support of our common allies and the support of European security, " Pavel said. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico  also congratulated Trump on his victory. "We respect the choice of the American people," Fico said, as quoted by AP, at a press conference on Wednesday.

Fico, who is known for his pro-Russian views, said the election result "is definitely a defeat for liberal and progressive ideas, because the new American president is a conservative. We think he will focus on economic issues in the United States.

Fico noted that it is important that "everyone is waiting for the first steps regarding the war in Ukraine." 

Fico added that Trump could reduce or end military aid to Ukraine or propose an immediate ceasefire to open the way for talks between Ukraine and Russia, AP reports .

The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that Moscow "has no illusions" about Donald Trump after he was elected president of the United States, and will work with the new US administration to strictly protect Russian national interests. the ministry said in a statement that Moscow will continue to focus on achieving the goals of the so-called "special military operation" in Ukraine, and that its position on the conflict remains unchanged.

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Wednesday congratulated Trump on his presidential election victory and said he hoped to contact him as soon as possible to discuss ways to further strengthen Japan-U.S. ties. "I look forward to working closely with President-elect Trump to elevate the Japan-U.S. alliance and relations to an even higher level," Ishiba said, as quoted by AP, at the prime minister's office,

South Korean President Yun Suk-yeol said he looks forward to working with Trump. "Under your strong leadership, the future of the Republic of Korea-USA alliance and America will shine brighter," Yun wrote in X.

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said in a statement: "I personally met President Trump when I was young, so I know his strong leadership will lead to a better future for all of us. Congratulations, President Trump!"

Jordan's King Abdullah II congratulated Trump, saying in a post on X that he "looks forward" to working with Trump "in the service of regional and global peace and stability for all." 

A senior Hamas official, Sami Abu Zuhri, said Donald Trump will be tested on his claims that he can stop the war within hours as US President. "We call on Trump to learn from Biden's mistakes," Abu Zuhri told Reuters.

As Reuters writes, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said: "We will remain steadfast over our commitment to peace, we are confident that the US under your leadership would support the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people."

Lebanon's caretaker prime minister Najib Mikati: "This morning, the preliminary results of the US elections were announced, so we must extend our congratulations to the president-elect and the American people on their democratic practice."
