Progress has been made in negotiations between the US and Iran, but a ceasefire agreement before the deadline set by Donald Trump remains unlikely due to key disagreements between the parties and Tehran's slow response. Axios writes about this, as reported by UNN

Over the past 24 hours, some progress has been made in negotiations between the US and Iran, although a ceasefire agreement before the deadline set by President Trump - 8:00 PM ET - still seems unlikely

- the publication writes.

As an American official stated, the mood in the White House has shifted from "can we achieve this?" to "can we achieve this by 8 PM tonight?"

According to sources, the main challenges currently are satisfying Iran's demand for a reliable guarantee that the US and Israel will not resume war after a pause, as well as the slow response of the Iranian leadership due to the security situation.

It is noted that over the past two weeks, the US and Iran have exchanged proposals and counter-proposals through mediators from Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey.

The negotiations involve Vice President Vance, White House envoy Steve Witkoff, and Trump's advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner. Witkoff also has a direct channel of communication with Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

The main option being discussed is a package of confidence-building measures from both Iran and the US, aimed at restoring shipping in the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for guarantees of an end to the war.

A 45-day truce is also being discussed, which would allow for negotiations on a broader agreement.
