The UN chief emphasized that extreme weather events are already becoming commonplace and are no longer limited to specific regions or short periods of time.

Abnormal temperatures are no longer limited to one day, one week or one month. If there is one thing that unites our divided world, it is that we are all increasingly experiencing heat

- Antonio Guterres said.

The UN Secretary-General has called on the world's leading industrialized nations to accelerate the phase-out of fossil fuels, as this is one of the key conditions for slowing down climate change. In addition, it is necessary to strengthen the fight against inequality, which is only deepening due to radical climate change.

The G20 should switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources and support vulnerable countries and regions. National climate plans should demonstrate how each country will contribute to achieving the global goals agreed at COP28

- added the UN Secretary-General.

According to the United Nations World Meteorological Organization, climate change will bring new temperature records over the next five years: both due to greenhouse gas emissions, including those associated with human activity, and due to the change in the phase of the sun, as well as the change in the phase of the Pacific Ocean currents that began last year.
