Ukraine will revise the Constitution due to EU accession - Stefanchuk

Ukraine must review a number of provisions of the Constitution in connection with its future accession to the European Union and the need to adapt national legislation to European norms. This was stated on the telethon broadcast by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, reports UNN.

Details

According to him, the European integration process will require amendments to the Basic Law, as other candidate states for EU membership have previously done.

Ukraine, paving its way to the European Union, will have to review a large number of its positions - as other candidate countries did - in order to introduce into the legal field a large layer of relations with the EU. Going into the European Union, we must understand that we will transfer a certain number of powers to its bodies. Therefore, this should also be in the Constitution of Ukraine

- said the speaker.

He emphasized that future changes to the Basic Law should become the subject of a broad public discussion.

"I see this as such general strokes that, after the end of martial law, should be very seriously discussed in Ukrainian society, and, possibly, in the near future will be introduced into the Constitution of Ukraine," Stefanchuk noted.
