Ukraine cuts electricity imports by 2% in July

In July 2024, Ukraine imported 837.8 thousand MWh of electricity, which is 2% less than in June. The largest share of imports came from Hungary (45%), followed by Poland (19%) and Romania (18%).
In July 2024, Ukraine reduced electricity imports by 2% compared to June 2024, amounting to 837.8 thousand MWh. This is evidenced by monitoring by ExPro Electricity, UNN reports.
Over the month, supplies increased only from Hungary, by 5.5%, and from Poland, by 10%. In other directions (Slovakia, Moldova, Romania), electricity imports decreased. Hungary continues to account for the largest share in the import structure (45%), followed by Poland (19%), and Romania (18%). The rest are Slovakia and Moldova
From July 10 to July 21, during an abnormal heat wave, electricity imports from Moldova were temporarily suspended by the local transmission system operator as part of energy security measures. Also, on July 23, no electricity was imported from Slovakia.
“In July 2024, Ukraine reduced electricity imports by 2% compared to June 2024 - to 837.8 thousand MWh,” they added.
According to ExPro Electricity's calculations, the average hourly import capacity in July amounted to 1126 MW. Most of the electricity was imported at 18 hours - the average for this time was 1308 MW.

Ukraine's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that the government is working with ENTSO-E partners to increase Ukraine's capacity to import electricity before the onset of winter.
