Bell County Sheriff's Office representative Cliff Coleman confirmed the deaths of both people who were on board the helicopter.
According to a military official, the AH-64 Apache was carrying out a routine training flight. The cause of the crash has not yet been established.

Coleman said that the investigation into the crash is being conducted by the Fort Hood Criminal Investigation Division. Preliminary data indicate that the helicopter did not hit residential buildings or other structures during the crash.
After the crash, a fire broke out at the scene. Aircraft were deployed to extinguish it, and several homes in the area had to be evacuated due to the threat of the fire spreading.
Fort Hood is one of the largest U.S. military bases, used to train and deploy heavy military units.
This was not the first fatal military helicopter crash near the base. In November 2015, four service members were killed during exercises after a Black Hawk crash. In 2016, another nine Fort Hood soldiers were killed after a sudden surge of water swept away their vehicle.
