Two men from Ternopil and Ivano-Frankivsk regions were rescued by border guards in Zakarpattia after they got lost while trying to illegally cross the border with Romania through the mountains.
In the mountains, border guards of the Dilove department of the Mukachevo detachment found two men who were planning to illegally cross the border with Romania. This was reported on Facebook by the press service of the Western Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, according to UNN.
Details
It is noted that a 26-year-old resident of Ternopil region and his 24-year-old friend from Ivano-Frankivsk region independently planned a route using online maps through a highland area. The desperate men had no clothes, food, or appropriate equipment for the hike. It took them two days to reach Romania.
Having spent the first night in the open air, the men were cold and wet in the rain. In the morning, they continued along the chosen route. 1.5 km from the border, the "travelers", tired and exhausted, were found by a border patrol. The men were happy to be found, as they realized they could have died.
The highland conquerors did not expect that such routes would be so difficult and dangerous without proper preparation, and the distance indicated on the map did not seem so insignificant for a quick passage,
The violators were taken to the border guard unit, given hot tea and an opportunity to dry their clothes and shoes.
Reports on administrative offenses under Art. 204-1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses "Illegal crossing or attempt to illegally cross the state border of Ukraine" were drawn up against both men, and the case was sent to court.
