Turkey plans to conduct the first flight of the latest KAAN fighter jet this week
Kyiv • UNN
The new Turkish KAAN combat aircraft will make its maiden flight on December 27. The first ground tests of the aircraft began in March this year.
The first flight of the new generation Turkish combat aircraft KAAN is scheduled for December 27. This was reported by UNN with reference to Daily Sabah.
Details
Ground testing of the KAAN prototype began in March 2023. The first run of the aircraft on the runway took place on March 16.
The airplane started its own engines and moved on the runway for some time due to the thrust of the jet engines, so it successfully passed the first ground test.
So this week, it will undergo a new phase of testing. If the flight is successful, Turkey has every chance of joining the ranks of countries with fifth-generation fighters.
However, even if the flight is successful, it is not fully known when Turkey will complete the tests and launch mass production of its own fighter jets. Experts are convinced that it will take several more years.
Addendum
The aircraft is being developed in stages, so important weapons systems will be installed only on later prototypes. The fighter jet, which was previously known as MMU (Milli Muharip Ucak) or TF-X, was officially named KAAN on May 1, 2023.
Production of 3 MMU Block prototypes is planned to be completed by the end of 2026 and one Block I prototype by 2029.
The Turkish Defense Industry Directorate expects this fighter to replace F-16s, which are currently in service with the Turkish army.
