Three people evacuated from liner due to hantavirus; WHO assesses public health risk as "low"

Three patients with suspected hantavirus were evacuated from a vessel to the Netherlands. The head of the WHO assesses the overall risk to human health as low.
The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, reported the medical evacuation of three people with suspected hantavirus from a cruise liner where an outbreak occurred, insisting that the "overall risk to public health remains low," UNN reports.
Three patients with suspected hantavirus have just been evacuated from the vessel and are en route to the Netherlands for medical care in cooperation with WHO, the vessel operator, and the national authorities of Cape Verde, the United Kingdom, Spain, and the Netherlands
According to him, the WHO "continues to work with the vessel operators to closely monitor the health of passengers and crew, collaborating with countries to support proper medical surveillance and evacuation where necessary." "Monitoring and follow-up of passengers on board and those who have already disembarked has been initiated in cooperation with the vessel operators and national health authorities," Ghebreyesus indicated, thanking everyone involved on behalf of the WHO.
At this stage, the overall risk to public health remains low
