The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated the possibility of restoring relations with Syria after the fall of the Assad regime. The new government should review relations with the Russian Federation and recognize the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine hopes to restore relations with Syria after the fall of the Bashar Assad regime. The Ukrainian agency called on the next Syrian authorities to review their relations with the regime of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, and also to respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine. This is reported by UNN with reference to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

For decades, the Assad regime has neglected the interests of its own people in order to maintain power, turning Syria into an outcast country that relied on the protection and support of other dictatorial regimes. His downfall once again shows that Putin always betrays those who rely on him. This has always been the case and will always be the case with all dictators who bet on the support of the Russian Federation

- it is said in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The diplomatic agency points out that the events in Syria demonstrate the weakness of the Putin regime, which is unable to fight on two fronts and abandons its closest allies for the sake of continuing the war in Ukraine.

"We call on the next Syrian authorities to review their relations with the Putin regime, which has led to the death of tens of thousands of Syrian citizens, including innocent women and children," the agency said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled that it was Moscow that prompted the Bashar Assad regime to illegally recognize Russia's attempt to annex Crimea and the temporary occupation of parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, which forced Ukraine to break off diplomatic relations with the country in 2022.

We hope that in the future, Syria will become a state that respects international law, including the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, which will pave the way for the restoration of bilateral relations and a full-fledged political dialogue between Kyiv and Damascus

- added in the ministry.

Syrian rebels, who have made significant progress in the offensive since last week, announced on December 8 the capture of the capital Damascus and reported the fall of ruler Bashar Assad. The President of Syria himself fled the country.

The Syrian Air plane on which Assad was fleeing disappeared from radar. There was a version that the plane could have been shot down and Assad died in the plane crash.

Later, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine stated that Russia used disinformation about the disappearance of the Il-76T plane from the radar to cover the evacuation of Bashar Assad. After that, information appeared that Assad and his family arrived in Moscow.
