According to the Center for Countering Disinformation, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Kirill, has published a book "War. Beyond the visible causes and consequences," where he gives the aggression against Ukraine an "expiatory meaning." In particular, the publication claims that "the earthly purpose of Russians is to be warriors of the Lord," so the author calls on the Russian people "not to shy away from the historical duty to be winners" and to consider patriotism from a "spiritual point of view."

"Such rhetoric is a deliberate psychological and ideological processing of Russian society. In the book, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church presents participation in the war as a 'godly deed,' thereby removing moral barriers for citizens. The use of the concept of 'holy war' and the religious cult of death demonstrates that the Russian Orthodox Church, led by Kirill, is not a religious organization, but one of the key elements of the state propaganda system and an important pillar of the Kremlin's war machine," the Center for Countering Disinformation post says.

At the same time, the Center for Countering Disinformation emphasized that systematic support for armed aggression and the sacralization of war crimes is a direct argument for the European Union to impose personal sanctions against the patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church, Kirill.
