Minister of Energy warned: a very difficult winter is ahead

Ukraine's Energy Minister warns of an extremely difficult winter period due to the loss of 9 GW of generation. The country is preparing for daily attacks on its energy infrastructure by carrying out repairs and developing nuclear power.
Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko noted that losses from massive shelling amount to 9 GW of generation capacity, which is almost half of the required winter capacity, and that a very difficult winter period is ahead, UNN reports citing the Energy Ministry.
We are on the verge of probably the most difficult winter for us, and this is true even compared to the winter of 2022-2023, when we experienced an attack on the energy infrastructure from October to March. I can say that the challenges of the next winter are much greater. Of course, we have a plan to survive another winter, and we understand that it will be a winter of daily attacks on the energy infrastructure
To prepare for the cold weather, Ukraine is reportedly currently conducting a large-scale repair campaign in an effort to add additional generation to the system, build out distributed generation, and rely on nuclear power, which provides 60% of the country's electricity.
