German Chancellor Olaf Scholz reportedly urged putin for peace talks during a phone call.
The German government press office confirmed the telephone conversation between Scholz and Putin.
The ministry said in a statement that Scholz was committed to achieving a "just and lasting peace". At the same time, the chancellor emphasized that Germany would continue to support Ukraine "as long as necessary".
"The chancellor condemned russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and called on president putin to put an end to it and withdraw troops," the German cabinet said.
Before his phone call with putin, Scholz allegedly coordinated with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Scholz and putin also reportedly agreed to stay in contact.
