According to the agency, the escalation began after the US on Friday struck Iranian missile depots and radar sites in response to an Iranian drone attack on a container ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
On Saturday, Iran said it attacked US facilities in the Persian Gulf, accusing Washington of violating the terms of a memorandum of understanding reached between the parties earlier this month.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain reported that in the morning the country became the target of an attack by several Iranian drones. Bahrain is home to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet.
In addition, a British maritime organization reported that on Saturday a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz was hit by an unidentified munition. Following this, the Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) raised the threat level to shipping security in the Strait of Hormuz to "substantial."
