The organizers of the DOCVILLE film festival in the Belgian city of Leuven decided to remove the film "Russians at War" from the program after an appeal from the Embassy of Ukraine in Belgium.
Ukrainian diplomats appealed to the authorities of Flanders, the administration of Leuven, the leadership of the festival and the Catholic University of Leuven with a demand to review the decision to show this film.
Since the documentary film by director Anastasia Trofimova tried to portray enemy soldiers participating in the war against Ukraine as "victims of circumstances". However, it ignored their responsibility for war crimes – the murder of civilians, torture, rape, looting and deportation of Ukrainian children.
As a result, the management of the DOCVILLE festival and the rector of the university decided to cancel the screening.
