Sowing campaign in Ukraine at the finish line — farmers have already sown 94% of spring crop areas

In Ukraine, the spring sowing of spring crops is nearing completion - farmers have already sown 94% of the projected areas, or 5.6 million hectares, the Ministry of Economy reported on Tuesday, UNN writes.

As of May 25, all categories of farms have sown 5,636.7 thousand hectares, or 94% of the forecast for grain and leguminous crops

- the Ministry of Economy reported.

Of these, as indicated:

  • spring wheat – 185.7 thousand hectares;
    • spring barley – 709.9 thousand hectares;
      • peas – 258.2 thousand hectares;
        • oats – 137.0 thousand hectares;
          • corn – 4,156.4 thousand hectares;
            • buckwheat – 37.6 thousand hectares;
              • millet – 32.2 thousand hectares.

                The largest areas of grain and leguminous crops were sown by farmers in Poltava, Chernihiv, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, and Kyiv regions.

                The top three leaders have the following results:

                • Poltava region – 590.8 thousand hectares (wheat – 4.9 thousand hectares, barley – 65.1 thousand hectares, peas – 12.1 thousand hectares, oats – 1.9 thousand hectares, corn – 502.5 thousand hectares);
                  • Chernihiv region – 550.3 thousand hectares (wheat – 10 thousand hectares, barley – 15 thousand hectares, peas – 9.2 thousand hectares, oats – 16.8 thousand hectares, corn – 490 thousand hectares);
                    • Cherkasy region – 403.2 thousand hectares (wheat – 3.7 thousand hectares, barley – 29.9 thousand hectares, peas – 6.8 thousand hectares, oats – 1.2 thousand hectares, corn – 360.8 thousand hectares).

                      Industrial crops have been sown on 6,265.6 thousand hectares. In particular, sugar beets have been sown on 186.3 thousand hectares, or 95% of the forecast.

                      Sunflowers have been sown on 4,341.9 thousand hectares, or 87% of the forecast.

                      Soybeans have been sown on 1,737.3 thousand hectares, or 85% of the forecast.

                      Addendum

                      According to the latest NBU forecasts, harvests in Ukraine in 2026 will differ slightly from last year's. The harvest of grain and leguminous crops is expected at 62.9 million tons (unchanged compared to the previous forecast). At the same time, the assumption regarding the oilseed harvest has been slightly downgraded to 20.2 million tons. Despite expectations of a higher sunflower harvest, a significant reduction in soybean and rapeseed harvests is projected due to damage to some crops and a decrease in the area under the latter. The effect on prices from the revision of these assumptions is assessed as neutral. The increase in fertilizer prices caused by the war in the Middle East will not have a significant impact on yields in 2026, as farmers formed the necessary stocks in advance.
