Sowing campaign 2026: 43% of planned fields already sown with spring crops in Ukraine

2.6 million hectares of spring grains have been sown in Ukraine, accounting for 43% of the forecast. The Poltava, Odesa, and Kyiv regions have emerged as the leaders in the sowing campaign.
Spring sowing in Ukraine continues - farmers have sown 2.6 million hectares, or 43% of the forecast for spring grains and leguminous crops, the Ministry of Economy reported on Tuesday, UNN writes.
As of May 5, farmers of all categories of households have sown more than two-fifths of the planned areas for grain and leguminous crops. The highest sowing rates are demonstrated by farms in the central and southern regions. In total, 2,609.0 thousand hectares have been sown, or 43% of the forecast for grain and leguminous crops
As indicated, of these:
- spring wheat – 177.9 thousand hectares,
- spring barley – 687.3 thousand hectares,
- peas – 252.6 thousand hectares,
- oats – 135.4 thousand hectares,
- corn – 1,346.7 thousand hectares,
- millet – 5.2 thousand hectares.
In addition, farmers in Sumy and Kharkiv regions have started sowing buckwheat – 0.64 thousand hectares have been sown.
Leaders among the regions:
- Poltava region – 294.3 thousand hectares (wheat – 4.9 thousand hectares, barley – 65.1 thousand hectares, peas – 12.1 thousand hectares, oats – 1.9 thousand hectares, corn – 210.3 thousand hectares).
- Odesa region – 193.4 thousand hectares (wheat – 10 thousand hectares, barley – 35 thousand hectares, peas – 95 thousand hectares, oats – 1.2 thousand hectares, corn – 22.3 thousand hectares, millet – 0.4 thousand hectares).
- Kyiv region – 183.8 thousand hectares (wheat – 25.6 thousand hectares, barley – 39 thousand hectares, peas – 5.5 thousand hectares, oats – 6 thousand hectares, corn – 107 thousand hectares, millet – 0.6 thousand hectares).
The sowing of industrial crops is also ongoing. In total, 2,066.8 thousand hectares have been sown. In particular, sugar beets have been sown on 182.9 thousand hectares (93% of the forecast), sunflowers – 1,506.8 thousand hectares (30%), soybeans – 377.1 thousand hectares (18%).
