The fire has engulfed more than 33,000 hectares of forest, making it the largest fire in the country's history. More than 120 helicopters are involved in the extinguishing.

The largest forest fire in the country's history is underway in South Korea. This is reported by Reuters, reports UNN.

Details

The fire, which started in the central district of Uiseong, has expanded significantly over the past day, covering more than 33,000 hectares of forest. At least 26 people have become victims of the disaster, and many local residents are forced to leave their homes.

Due to dry weather and strong gusts of wind, the fire is spreading rapidly, destroying buildings, agricultural land and historical temples. This has already surpassed the scale of the catastrophic fire of 2000, when 24,000 hectares of territory were burned.

More than 120 fire helicopters are involved in the fight against the elements. The military has allocated aviation fuel to extinguish fires in mountainous areas. However, forecasters warn that the expected rainfall will be minimal and is unlikely to help contain the fire.

Experts note that this fire is extraordinary not only because of its size, but also because of the speed of its spread.
