Russia suddenly revoked accreditations of Western media for the May 9 parade - Der Spiegel

Russian authorities have revoked previously approved accreditations for Western media to cover the May 9 parade in Moscow. This is reported by UNN with reference to Der Spiegel.

Details

Among those denied are ARD, ZDF, Sky, AFP, Rai, and NHK, as well as Der Spiegel. The Kremlin's press service stated that this year, only Russian "media" will have access to the shortened parade. No other details regarding the refusal were provided.

This is the first time in the history of the May 9 parade that foreign media initially received accreditation from the Kremlin for the parade, only for it to be subsequently revoked.

Additionally

This year, no military hardware will be presented at the traditional parade on Red Square in Moscow on May 9. The Kremlin fears aerial attacks by Ukrainian drones, so it will hold the parade in a "lightweight" version.

As a reminder

At least 15 Russian regions have opted out of holding parades on the occasion of May 9.

UNN also reported that mobile internet will be disabled in Moscow during the Victory Day celebrations on May 9, including websites that are supposed to be available via a "white list."

At the same time, the head of the occupation "administration" of the Zaporizhzhia region, Yevgeny Balitsky, also canceled the "Immortal Regiment" and "Victory Parade" in the region this year on May 9. The reason cited is the "threat from Ukrainian drones."
