Russia massively cuts down forests near Finland to build military bases - CPD
Kyiv • UNN
Russian military hastily erects hangars and barracks on deforested areas. This is the Kremlin's reaction to Finland's accession to NATO.

Satellite images and media investigations have recorded large-scale deforestation in the border areas of the Russian Federation near Finland. This is reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (CCD), informs UNN.
Details
It is noted that in these territories, Russian military personnel are hastily constructing new facilities - hangars for equipment, weapons depots, and barracks.
This construction is a direct reaction of the Kremlin to Finland's accession to NATO. Despite statements about the "absence of territorial claims," Moscow is deploying additional military capabilities to intimidate Northern Europe
It is indicated that deforestation for new bases testifies to the long-term plans of the Russian Federation regarding the militarization of the region: the occupiers are creating infrastructure for deploying new units of the Leningrad Military District, attempting to create constant tension on the borders of NATO countries.
"Military construction near Finland's borders destroys any myths about the 'peacefulness' of the Russian Federation and proves that the Kremlin views European countries as potential targets for military pressure," the CCD summarizes.
