Russia is more actively recruiting foreigners for the front and is approaching 1.5 million casualties in Ukraine

According to the General Staff, Russian forces' casualties have reached 1,460,400 personnel. Moscow is more actively recruiting foreigners and may conscript up to another 500,000 in the autumn.
Russian military losses since the beginning of the full-scale invasion are approaching 1.5 million troops, Ukraine said on August 11, while Russians have begun recruiting foreigners into the military more frequently. Newsweek writes about this, UNN reports.

According to Ukraine’s General Staff, as of August 11, Russia had lost 1,460,400 troops. This figure includes those killed and wounded, some of whom may have returned to combat or been wounded again.
At the same time, it is difficult to independently verify the exact number of losses on either side. Western estimates of total Russian losses are somewhat lower than Ukrainian figures.
Western estimates also record significant Russian losses
In May, British intelligence agency GCHQ estimated the number of Russian military personnel killed at nearly 500,000. Russia’s independent Mediazona and the Russian service of the BBC confirmed the identities of 236,066 Russian service members who were killed.
Last month, the American Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) estimated the number of Russian military personnel killed at up to 450,000, with total losses at approximately 1.4 million. According to the CSIS estimate, Ukrainian losses during the same period could have reached 625,000 people, including up to 150,000 killed.
Against the backdrop of significant losses, Moscow continues to recruit new troops through financial incentives, foreign fighters, and other mechanisms. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia may be preparing to call up as many as 500,000 people for military service in the autumn.
