The US Secretary of State said that updates would be forthcoming later today, and he would leave any further announcements to Donald Trump. However, there is a possibility of "good news" within the next few hours regarding the Strait of Hormuz, he added.
Rubio cautioned that "final progress" in negotiations with Iran has not been reached and reiterated that "the ultimate goal is for Iran to never possess nuclear weapons."
"The President has made it clear, they will never possess nuclear weapons, certainly not while Donald Trump is President of the United States," he said.
Rubio also said that Iran does not own the Strait of Hormuz and criticized the threats made by the country regarding the waterway. He said Trump is focused on finding a diplomatic way to resolve the issues on the route, but they will be resolved "one way or another."
