Romania spent about 1.5 million euros on shooting down Russian drones in a few days

The Armed Forces of Romania spent approximately 1.5 million euros over three days, during which three Russian drones were shot down in the country's airspace. This was reported by Digi24, writes UNN.

Most of the costs are for missiles launched from F-16 aircraft. The Romanian Ministry of Defense is looking for cheaper solutions, but the first anti-drone systems are expected to enter service with the army only next year.

F-16 fighters use AIM-9X missiles, and the cost of one is about $400,000. Three missiles were fired to destroy three drones, so their total cost was about $1.2 million.

Added to this amount are the costs of flight hours and aircraft maintenance. Thus, the total cost of the three interception operations is estimated at approximately 1.5 million euros ($1.7 million).

Protecting the population remains a priority, regardless of the cost of such operations. At the same time, the Romanian Armed Forces will not be able to sustain this level of expenditure in the long term if Russian drones continue to violate the country's airspace as frequently.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, more than 100 Russian attacks have been recorded near Romania's border. In 33 cases, Russian UAVs violated the country's airspace, and each time fighters were scrambled.

In approximately 50 cases, drone debris was found on Romanian territory.

Recall

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania summoned the Russian ambassador over a series of violations of airspace by Russian drones. The diplomatic protest will be based on the results of investigations into the incursions.
