Romania scrambled Typhoon fighter jets due to Russia's overnight attack on Ukraine

Following the Russian strike on Ukraine near the town of Vylkove, an alert was issued in Romania and NATO aircraft were scrambled. No violations of the airspace were recorded.

On the night of June 14, Romanian authorities issued an RO-Alert warning for residents of Tulcea County due to a Russian drone attack on targets in Ukraine near the border with Romania. To monitor the situation, two Italian Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon fighters were scrambled, UNN reports, citing Newsmaker.

The Romanian Ministry of Defense reported that Russian forces attacked civilian and infrastructure targets in Ukraine near the border with drones. According to the ministry, a group of aerial targets was located approximately 12 km east of the Ukrainian city of Vylkove.
At 00:02, authorities sent an RO-Alert message to residents of the northern part of Tulcea County. The warning remained in effect until 01:11.
At 00:10, two Italian Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon fighters participating in the NATO Air Policing mission were scrambled from the Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base. They patrolled the border zone and returned to base at 01:44.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense stated that they did not record any violations of the country's airspace or any aircraft crashes on its territory.
The Tulcea County Inspectorate for Emergency Situations explained that the warning was issued due to the risk of objects falling from the airspace.
"Recently, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations sent an RO-Alert notification for the northern part of the county. Residents were warned about the possibility of objects falling from the airspace," the authorities reported.
According to the Romanian Ministry of Defense, since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, drone debris has been found on the country's territory 47 times. Of these, 12 cases have been recorded since the beginning of this year.
