Kyiv • UNN
The United States has handed over thousands of small arms and ammunition items confiscated from Iran, including more than 5,000 assault rifles, machine guns, sniper rifles, anti-tank grenade launchers, and more than 500,000 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition to Ukraine.
Last week, the United States handed over thousands of small arms and ammunition confiscated from Iran to Ukraine. This was reported by the US Central Command (CENTCOM), UNN reports.
Details
It is noted that the weapons were delivered on April 4. Thus, Ukraine received more than 5,000 assault rifles, machine guns, sniper rifles and anti-tank grenade launchers.
The transfer also included more than 500,000 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition.
This is enough material to equip one Ukrainian brigade with small arms. These weapons will help Ukraine defend itself against Russian invasion
Addendum
As explained in the command, the government acquired ownership of these weapons on December 1, 2023, through civil forfeiture lawsuits filed by the Ministry of Justice against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran.
The munitions were transferred from the IRGC to the Houthis in Yemen in violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2216. The U.S. military managed to intercept them when they were secretly transported on civilian ships.
