Rheinmetall CEO stated there is a risk of France withdrawing from the MGCS project. Paris plans to cut funding for the program by more than half.

Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG, sees a risk of France withdrawing from the joint tank project with Germany following the failure of the fighter jet program between the two countries this week, UNN reports, citing Bloomberg.

While nothing has been decided yet, "there is always a risk" of France withdrawing from the Main Ground Combat System (MGCS) project, Papperger said in an interview with Welt am Sonntag on Saturday.
France plans to significantly cut its budget for the project, the CEO said, adding that a volume of "less than half" of previous plans is being discussed.
"If you have less money, you won't get faster, and we are already very slow," he was quoted as saying.
Papperger's comments came just days after the failure of the prestigious Future Combat Air System project with France due to disagreements between the two countries. Germany is now looking for new partners to build a next-generation fighter jet.
