The head of the police in the town of Texcaltitlan committed suicide when troops tried to arrest him as part of a corruption investigation. During the operation, 7 other officials were detained on suspicion of having links to criminal groups.

The police chief of a small town in central Mexico took his own life when troops approached to arrest him as part of anti-corruption raids, UNN reports, citing  the Associated Press.

In the town of Texakaltitlan, the police chief committed suicide with his weapon when marines, National Guard and soldiers surrounded him, intending to detain him on unspecified charges.

In addition, the military arrested the mayor of the neighboring town of Amanalco on various charges, along with the chief of police and another local official. In the town of Tejupilco, located to the south, the police chief was also detained.

According to the Federal Department of Public Security, the seven detained officials had ties to criminal groups and are suspected of extortion, kidnapping and murder. It has not yet been clarified whether they have been formally charged.
